#TBT Senior Prom

Don’t I look so thrilled, so ladylike? My date was 21 years old. I was 17. I was a rebel and I didn’t even know it. Or who knows, maybe I did.

Now that’s a great photo haha!! You look like you were ready for a brawl, white gloves and all!

    Dear Ms. O’Malley–

I tried to reach you via email but the address I had came up invalid. I just finished reading your excellent review of the film “Strong Island” (which I watched this evening on Netflix). However, I did want to call your attention to one important fact: Yance Ford, the director, is a woman – not a man. You refer to “her” as “he” throughout your article. William Ford, Jr. had two sisters. This is stated several times during the film.

I thought you would want to know and have a chance to correct this mistake.

I really did enjoy your review.

    Best regards,
    –Maria Mancuso

Maria – I’m not sure what email you tried to use – I didn’t receive anything at the one listed on my “About Me” page above.

I agree that Strong Island was an excellent film!

In re: the pronouns: Yance Ford is trans. He identifies as male. If you read other reviews, as well as the biographical information on the website for the film, you’ll see “he/his” as well.

      Thanks for reaching out!

I didn’t know that! Haven’t read any background on the film but I certainly will now. Wish they’d made it a little clearer in the film. Perhaps they did and i just didn’t catch it. Thank you for clarifying that.

P.S. The is the email address I tried to use: gibsongirl@sheilaomalley.com.

This is the message I received: “gibsongirl@sheilaomalley.com.” does not appear to be a valid email address. Verify the address and try again.

Perhaps it has something to do with Apple iMail. Thanks again.

Hmmm … very strange about my email address. Thanks for letting me know. I’ll look into it!

There are some really good interviews with him (one is also on Rogerebert.com by Christina Newland – you can track it down there).

I really thought the film was so beautifully done and look forward to more of Ford’s work.

Thanks for the tip. I’ll read the Newland interview. Just watched the Q & A session from Sundance which was very good. I could spend all day researching this film but I better get busy! Thanks again for your responses.
