This coming December 11, I’ll be participating in Film Comment‘s Best of 2018 talk with a murderer’s row of critics, including the great Molly Haskell, K. Austin Collins, and Nick Pinkerton, moderated by Film Comment editor-in-chief Nic Rapold. New Yorkers, event details here. It should be a great discussion! And it’s free!

Congratulations!
I’m so glad it’s being streamed. Looking forward to watching.
Molly Haskell is a real idol of mine. so it’s a thrill! I’ve met her before, but it’s pretty cool to be on a panel with her.
I need to put up my Top 10 – or at least all the movies I’ve seen that I recommend. Doing some lists for Ebert and Film Comment but it’s still fun to put something a little bit more free-wheeling here.
It’s been a good year for movies.
Maybe in the middle of the panel I’ll wave and shout, randomly, “Hi, Mutecypher” and then I’ll never get asked back.
Well then I won’t dare you! ;-)
“Hi, Mutecypher and the annoying *****” <- career = dead. :D
More seriously, you've had quite a year, it is so great to see you participate in so many projects and events. I'm glad the world gets more Sheila O'Malley goodness!
//“Hi, Mutecypher and the annoying *****”<- career = dead. :D//
On the other hand, what a way to go.
hahahaha “annoying *****” can you imagine??
Thank you so much, Lyrie. The year has been a whirlwind. but I still managed to do two SPN re-caps!! I WILL CONTINUE.
You’re the Douglas MacArthur of SPN re-caps!
My faculty meeting went long, so I got on when you were talking about Roma. Missed the earlier stuff. I enjoyed the talk!
Tried to watch again off the website’s stored version, but the sound was so low that even on my highest volume I could barely hear – oh well.
Pretty sure you didn’t do the shout out. Pretty sure. ; – )
I saw The Favorite this weekend. Would love to talk about it – I imagine you’ve seen it.
Huh, low sound? Bummer!
It was insane on Twitter when each film was announced by Film Comment. I was tagged in each one, and when I checked later that night (I don’t have Twitter on my phone) it said I had 632 notifications and I got terrified that something I said had gone viral. Ha. But no, it was just the Film Comment crowd liking each choice.
I’m pretty psyched about our list. It’s different!
and yes, The Favourite! I liked it! Not as much as many others did – not a Top 10 contender, in other words – but I do like Lanthimos’ work – and thought it was good (loved the costuming and production design too – all those blue-blacks and whites).
Thoughts?
