I really enjoyed I Used to Go Here. I related to this woman’s mid-30s struggles. Can you tell? Gilliam Jacobs is a wonderful actress. My review is up on Ebert.

I love Jacobs. I’ve only seen her in comedy but she’s the type of comedian you know can kill drama; she’s so present, so responsive to everything going on in a scene and always in character. Great review, I’m keen to see it! Her falling in deep with the boys across the way sounds hysterical.
Jessie – // she’s the type of comedian you know can kill drama //
Yes!! I need to catch up on all of her work. I was introduced to her through the film Don’t Think Twice -where she blew me away – and she was very funny (she plays an improv comedian) but also heartbreaking. but I know there’s so much else out there!
There are scenes in I Used to Go Here where she is so awkward you almost BEG for the scene to stop!!
But yeah, she’s great here. And I fell in love with these college kids too – I think it’s written really well, with an ear to the ground about what college kids are like now. It all feels very specific – nobody’s a “type”, not really.
Let me know what you think when you see it! always look forward to hearing your responses.
Yes, I became a fan of Jacobs through Community and loved her in that Ibiza movie that’s on Netflix.
Ooh gotta check out Ibiza – I don’t know it!
