Review: Rose Plays Julie (2021)

I reviewed the haunting, eerie “revenge” film Rose Plays Julie, which feels like a throwback to antiquity, only now Electra has a cell phone. Really good performances. Big fan of this movie. My review is over on Ebert.

this is such a good review, Sheila, particularly the way you talk about the sparseness and strangeness of the film and the unreality of everything outside the main characters. I’m very eager to see this!

Thank you Jessie! It’s a really controlled style – a lot of it I can’t quite put my finger on – but there’s something really weird about all the interiors. Would be curious to hear if you pick up on it too.
