For the Sight & Sound Summer double issue, I wrote about editor Anne V. Coates for the huge “Hidden Heroes” feature, about “100 hidden heroes of cinema who have shaped film history” – casting directors, archivists, costume designers, etc. Anne V. Coates is obviously very well-known – more so than some of the others – but I thought including an editor in this huge list was important, particularly one who was responsible for one of the most famous cuts in cinema history.
A couple years ago, I wrote the script for the tribute reel put together for Anne V. Coates’ Lifetime Achievement Oscar ceremony. Diane Lane read my script. It was super cool.
So it was good to pay tribute to her again. Let’s give it up for great editors. I am looking forward to digging into the feature and reading all the other entries.
