Twins in Jim Jarmusch’s Paterson

I wrote about Paterson for Ebert’s Top Ten of 16. I have my own theory about the twins theme. The recurrence of twins all over the place is obvious … and yet simultaneously mysterious. Those kinds of random “clusters” that sometimes happen in life. You wonder what it might mean. Does it have anything to do with you? Is “random” even a THING? The twins show up everywhere, but there’s also doubling going on all over the place, even in the structure, as things repeat, and repeat and repeat.
