I’m thrilled that Criterion is releasing Joachim Trier’s The Worst Person in the World, a movie that’s been sweeping up awards ever since it appeared first on the festival circuit last year. The New York Film Critics Circle just awarded it Best Foreign Language Film, and lead actress Renate Reinsve won Best Actress at Cannes. It’s just amazing. Huge fan of Trier’s work, and this is a really new “vibe” for him – a romantic comedy, with melancholy mood-poem shadings – and I’m just so happy Criterion asked me to write the booklet essay for this wonderful film.
