Review: You Are Not My Mother (2022)

Ireland has been killing it in the horror genre for the last ten years. I’ve reviewed a number of them (way back in 2014 I reviewed The Canal for the dearly-departed and sorely-missed The Dissolve – and I REALLY recommend that one).

I reviewed Kate Dolan’s directorial debut, You Are Not My Mother … the title of which does not really express the trauma on display in the film. It’s horror – or supernatural (heh) – but its real horror is emotional. That’s a cliche, I know, I know, but it’s great when a film pulls it off in what feels to be an honest and organic (instead of manipulative) way. I reviewed for Ebert.
