Some good news on the Jafar Panahi front. At first, word was that Panahi would definitely be attending the Venice Film Festival, but now that seems a bit more up in the air. It is not clear whether or not he will be allowed to go (yet another infuriating detail in this ongoing situation, for him and others like him). His short film, The Accordion, is going to be screened at the Venice Film Festival, the very festival that awarded his 2000 film The Circle its top prize. I sincerely hope he will be allowed to go. I look forward to seeing The Accordion when it becomes available.
My reviews of Panahi’s films:
The Circle, 2000
Crimson Gold, 2003
Offside, 2006
