From Hellzapoppin’

One of the greatest dance scenes of all time. I love the joy of it, the athleticism, and also the roughness. These people are literally THROWING each other around. Glorious.

I also love the WAY they pick up their instruments in the beginning. Like they’re attacking them, or something. They don’t just walk over there and gently hold each one in their hand. It’s as if they’re guided over there. Like…they HAVE TO play this music. There’s almost too much going on inside them NOT to.

This is a brilliant clip, Sheila.

Alex – I know. And how they react to each other – like the music from one another hits on a very personal level. I love their body language so much!!

Thank you for this, Sheila, I’m grinning from ear to ear. This was fabulous!

Sheer liquid joy, is it not?? I love it when the one girl kicks the guy in the ass and he goes flying. Hilarious!!

Yeah…that’s the other thing too, Sheila. How they are with each other. Not just the dancers, but the musicians. I can only imagine how many takes this took, but the joy in their eyes is so apparent.

And their Spatial Relationship is gorgeous. The way they keep bopping towards each other is so rich and fun. You rarely see people in film anymore actually having a good time.
