Three More Snapshots (of a Self-Promotional Nature)

These are from last week.

— I am #12 on this list of Best Web-Based Criticism, otherwise known as The Muriels. This is my first year appearing on the list. Found out about it last week, I have no idea how I got on that list, or who voted me, but I’m happy to be included (although they did list the name of my site incorrectly).

— This book review site, which has been called “the perfect website for young LGBT readers”, somehow heard about my post about my friend in 2nd grade, and linked to it. People link to me all the time, but this one was really moving to me. Because it really shows the power of telling a story and then passing it on. I am so glad that people out there like that essay.

— In Dana Stevens’ pre-Oscar conversation with Troy Patterson over on Slate, she brought up the piece I wrote on the 5 Best Actress nominees, and referred to me as “estimable”, also mentioning the praise I heaped upon Annette Bening. I actually was proud of that Bening paragraph in my piece, I had thought about it long and hard, how to say what I mean, how to mean what I say. What to mention, what to leave out (word count). It’s always nice to be mentioned, but it was also really nice on that particular day (Friday of last week). Dana and I actually have a little plan for something we want to do together – possibly in the next month, scheduling allowed. I’m excited about it and I’ll be sure to give you all a heads-up.

Aah! Dana Stevens is my hero! She’s by far my favourite critic at Slate; she always has something smart and nuanced to say, and her recommendations are usually spot on. So it makes perfect sense that she linked you! That’s awesome.

Congrats Sheila! Well deserved praises indeed :)

  3. litdreamer says:

“The estimable blogger Sheila O’Malley,” no less. :-) Congrats on the accolades.
