I’ve Lived Here For Years

… and I never get sick of it. I am never “over” this area of town.

    Nice shots.

Have you ever seen the Caveman’s Valentine? The Chrysler building always reminds me of that movie.

Paul – I haven’t! Just looked it up – and looks like I will have to check it out. Thanks!

Did you know you can walk in what we used to call “the catacombs” (pictures 1,3,5 of Grand Central?) I used to go up there in high school, and I still see people walking up there sometimes, but I haven’t tried going up in years. I’m not even sure how to, but it’s a really cool place from which to view the main terminal.

The Chrysler Building has long been my favorite NYC landmark, with Grand Central and the Flatiron Building being close runners-up.* Just love that grand dame of a skyscraper. Thanks for the great pictures.

*though now that I think of it… the Charmin Depot is pretty damned cool too.

Sheila, these pictures couldn’t have come at a better time! My husbands sisters, twins, celebrate their 50th birthday in Sept. We are all meeting in New York for a blow out weekend. I’ve been deciding which hotel to book and having fun making plans. To see your pictures got me even more excited. I haven’t been to N Y in many years and I love it sooo much!

One reason that the teevee show Castle has become one of my favorite things is that, even though it’s a murder mystery show, it doesn’t depict NYC as a crime-ridden, grungy cesspool. It’s actually full of shots of the city that make it look like a beautiful place full of interesting people. (Some of whom are, unfortunately, murderers.)

I wonder if they have a word for that burst of longing you can sometimes get for a place you’ve never been. I can’t explain it, I always get this pang of longing for New York when I see the angels over the Grand Central entrance, and the Angel of the Waters fountain in Central Park. I’ve been to NYC ages ago, loved it, but didn’t go by either place. And yet I look at pics of both places and they feel like a memory. Great shots.
