Downward Dog …

Cashel apparently is adjusting very well to his new school. This warms my heart. He has made friends, and he loves his teacher (so much so that he leaves her “anonymous” notes).

He has also signed up for 3 after-school activities. Which … frankly … just KILL me. I can’t get over it.

They are:

1. Spanish
2. Musical comedy (they will be doing a production of Cats. Ahem.)
3. Yoga

Yoga. I can barely express how much I want to be a fly on the wall at that class and watch Cashel do yoga.

But also … just taken all together … those 3 activities just crack me UP.

Add this to the Cashel archive! Cashel’s doin’ some yoga!

Damn! I wish I could’ve taken Spanish, musical comedy and yoga when I was 6! How fantastic. I wonder what the other after-school activities are . . .

  2. red says:

I’m sure regular sports and stuff. But Cashel doesn’t like that stuff.

    So this is perfect!

  3. red says:

Or who knows – maybe the other choices are:

Poetry Slam, Fashion Design and Synchronized Swimming.

    Now we’re talking!

  5. Stevie says:

  6. red says:

Red, BTW, you had a post a couple of weeks ago about children’s books fondly remembered – and I think it was Beth who was trying to track down a book about a family with 11 children? Anyway, I went to loganberrybooks.com and entered the info in their stumper list – and here’s what some kind person came up with:

But Daddy! 1967, by Tom and Pat Buck. I don’t have the book in front of me, but the author and his wife, Pat, had eleven children, and the names Mackey and Mary certainly sound familiar. Humorous nonfiction about a Catholic family.

Another person actually looked at the book:

Okay, I have But Daddy! in front of me. The children (as listed on pages 11 and 12 of the book) are: Dempsey (17, girl), Kern (16, boy), Macky (15, girl), Rinker (14, boy), Bridget (12, girl), Bryan (11, boy), Patty (8, girl), Nicky (7, boy), Andy (5, boy), Ferry (3, boy), and Adrian (newborn, boy). So the first four aren’t boys, and there’s no child named Mary, and the book isn’t written by the mother. Other than that, it’s a match. :-)

    Cool, huh?

  8. Cullen says:

I think it was Lisa looking for that … but I can’t remember exactly.

Man, wish my six-year-old could do that kind of stuff. They have a Spanish class as part of their curriculum, but no after-school activities. Oh well, I did choose to live in the South.

  9. Lisa says:

    Oh.

    My.

    God.

Stevie is TOTALLY my new boyfriend! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!! Seriously, you CANNOT know how happy you’ve made me today.

(I can’t believe I was wrong about the four boys. I think I got this book all mixed up with Teresa Bloomingdale’s books. But I got Mackey!)

    Squee!!!!!!!!

  10. Stevie says:

You’re welcome, Lisa! It was fun to post it and wait to see if anyone remembered it. :)

  11. red says:

    yay!!!!!!!! Unbelievable!

  12. mere says:

Wow! What a cool school to have those activities available.

  13. ricki says:

    that’s cool.

When I was a kid growing up, the town I lived in had a very active “parks and rec.” department, and they used to offer “classes” every fall and spring.

I took improvisational drama for several years. (Never did much with it but I did learn to speak clearly, enunciate well, and to project my voice, which are useful when you’re a prof). I also took a class in puppetry and puppet making.

and my parents made me take field hockey. Ugh. I was pretty much a girly-girl, and not very athletic, and to be put on a field with all those sportive girls, meant I was the one who usually got selected to be the testee of “shin pad integrity” (i.e., everyone else on the team whacked my shins as hard as they could with their sticks).
