My great and old friend Kate Fry opens this week in A Minister’s Wife at Lincoln Center, reprising her role as Candida from the hit production in Chicago. A musical adaptation of George Bernard Shaw’s Candida, I saw it in workshop form at Lincoln Center last year (and, thrillingly for me, got to meet Austin Pendleton, who wrote the book. To me, he will always be Mr. Larabie from What’s Up, Doc), and the production is finally opening this week. Kate is a phenomenal actress and singer, one of Chicago’s brightest stars. We did a show together in Chicago years ago, which is when we became friends. She is marvelous in the part of Candida (she’s absolutely lovely onstage – reviewers can’t get enough of her), and I’m thrilled that she’s getting to show her stuff in this larger venue.
What with my Tribeca and her rehearsals and previews, not to mention various illnesses and flu bugs, and sick children, we have barely been able to connect while she is here, which has been ridiculous! Ridiculous, I say!
Read more about the production (and purchase tickets) here.
I hope to get a call from her while she is in the middle of a show. It’s become a tradition.
She looks perfect for a Horton Foote. Does she know his work?
She looks wonderful. Congratulations to Kate! I’ve admired her from afar on your blog for a while now.
Tracey – When I saw the workshop, they did it in regular street clothes, holding their scripts – so it’s amazing to see her all dolled up here!
We’re finally getting together today – briefly, but at least it will be a bit of friend face-time before we both go back into our respective trenches. She emailed me yesterday, “How long does that fucking film festival last?”
hahahaha
Shaw couldn’t have said it better.
Or Horton Foote, for that matter (who has nothing to do with this post, wonderful though he is).
Hahaha. ;-)
