The designers had to design an ice-skating dress for the divine and fiery Miss Sasha Cohen. I LOVE that chick. I love ice skating. I know, I know … it’s not a sport … the judging sucks … but I LOVE IT. I also watched Skating with Celebrities tonight and actually CRIED A TEAR when I watched Todd Bridges skating. I CRIED A TEAR. I was PROUD OF TODD BRIDGES. I was proud enough to SHED A TEAR. Wow. I knew I was a geek, but I didn’t know I was THAT much of a geek.
This was a huge challenge for the designers. Many of them had never even ice skated before. Zulema had skated once or twice … but I thought her dress was gorgeous – and very Sasha-esque. Sasha is sassy – but also like a swan. Her dress reflected that.
— Santino’s dress BLEW. What? You make a skater look fat in her dress? You make her look like she has a fat ass? Are you out of your mind?
— Heidi Klum continues to entice me with her pregnant belly, her adorable outfits, and her changeable look: sometimes red lipstick, sometimes nude … she always looks fabulous and … I adore her in an almost inappropriate way.
— I felt a mixture of feelings watching Emmet at the end. His dress was a disaster … but he’s a menswear designer. This is not his bag. But something about his posture … wearing that pink flouncy top (they all dressed up like ice skaters) … and his soft open face … I don’t know. I like him personally. He came back, after losing, and said to the rest of the designers, as they all hugged him, “Best of luck to all of you …” I don’t know. The guy’s got class.
— Sasha Cohen is a cutie-pie. I loved watching her take notes during the runway show.
— Andre (or whatever) is such a drama queen, but I loved how butch he got when he fixed the special sewing machine.
— I was actually strangely charmed by Santino during this particular challenge. I forgive him his grease-ball ambience. He seemed kind of humorous, and self-deprecating and more part of the team.
— Tim Gunn on skates, wearing trim little blue jeans, is an image that will get me through many a dark hour.
— Nick is awesome. I truly wish that we were friends. “It was like international male gone g-g-g-GAY.”
— I loved how Kara was kind of insecurely looking for validation and Nick said to her, “Uh huh, right … right … but just trust your instincts.”
— These people are all so creative. If you set me loose in a bead store … I mean, I GUESS I would figure out what I wanted … but … I have no idea what I would buy. These people have pictures in their minds, and they surge forward trying to make that picture a reality. The show is fascinating because of that creative process.
— Chloe’s dress was okay. Sasha liked it – but I wasn’t all that wacky about it. It seemed like Sasha would get lost in it – but that sky-blue color would look beautiful on her.
— I LOVED LOVED LOVED when Tim Gunn turned to Sasha and said, “What is important for you … in terms of your costumes?” And she started talking about what the costumes needed to have. I don’t know, I just loved that … the professional respect Gunn gave her, and also – her knowledge about what she needed. Very cool.
— I loved Daniel’s dress – I think that guy is really talented. Here’s the deal: He’s not a wild crazy greaseball genius like Santino – but here’s what I see: He took on THE PROJECT AT HAND. He didn’t try to prove how brilliant he was. He actually seemed to think about Sasha Cohen. I could see her in that dress.
— Seeing how nervous Zulema was on her skates … she’s not a skater, or an ice skating fan … so then her face when Sasha said, “I will be wearing your dress in my next exhibition …” Zulema’s expression was unforgettable. Like … she truly couldn’t believe it. She went kind of blank and said, “Really?” I got a little choked up.
— I am such a fucking geek.
You’re not a geek, it’s just an awesome show. I agree that Chloe’s dress didn’t completely jive with me. I’ve liked most of what she’s done, but it never strikes me as perfect. Compare that to Daniel, who just hits the right notes every time.
And while Santino really is turning out to be a one-trick pony as far as his designs go, I forgive him a lot because I LOVED last episode when he was singing (with jazz hands and choreography) “Lighten up! It’s just fashion!”
jazz hands … hahahahahahaha
also, this episode when he was imagining what the judges would say to him – that was hilarious as well.
“Santino … it looks like … a baboon’s ASS exploded on the back of her dress!”
Yeah, and it was even funnier when they actually did start saying all that stuff. At least Sasha was tactful about it.
And as a little side note, I just realized a pair of pants my Mom gave me is a pair of Michael Kors slacks and I giggled excitedly. I think that makes me an official Project Runway nerd.
Yay for Project Runway nerds!
I have to admit that I am REALLY tired of Santino. He hasn’t really built to the project once yet–it’s all Santino showing how outrageous Santino can be. I also hate to say it, but I actually LIKED Emmet’s design, but Zulima was the clear winner.
You know you are a PR geek when you start to feel a little nervous and defensive when the judges dislike something that you yourself like. I know I was sort of feeling that for Emmett yesterday when they were calling his outfit vulgar. Starry night it was NOT, but it wasn’t vulgar, just boring! And last night, for the first time, I really wanted Santino gone and thought that he had really blown it, but in the end, they always go with the most boring and unimaginative scheme, not the most awful. Like: Santino probably should have totally LOST the lingerie challenge, not sweetie Daniel F. (I hope he gets his own show, I just really loved him!)
Geeks unite!
i also got choked up watching Todd Bridges.
mere – you saw it too??? Wasn’t it strangely touching? LIke – he worked his ass off, he had a sense of humor about himself … and there he was on friggin’ ice skates …
I couldn’t take it!!
I can’t help it – this show has me under total control.
(I also watched Skating With Celebrities – no tears shed, but even more in love with Jillian Bararie, even if I don’t know how to spell her name, which is fine, because it should be F.)
I didn’t like Zulema’s dress – reminded me of brain matter. Maybe it’s just b/c I don’t like her.
Santino started to win my over a little bit when he was making fun of his own design, but he should be gone. Kors had it right when he said it’d be great for a Thanksgiving play for an Indian getting chased by a turkey. Will he *ever* get it?
Poor Emmet. He did handle it with class. I liked his design, but I can see how it’s “been done.” Poor guy. The only episode I’ve seen where they didn’t boot off the “boring” one was the Nicky Hilton episode – they kept Marla and got rid of the other girl.
I liked when the other guys were making fun of Andre’s drama.
Tim Gunn is awesome. He gives great advice without being threatening whatsoever. I LOVED the way he approached Santino – I’m conflicted about how to approach you on this, but don’t tell the judges to fuck off! I want to work for Tim Gunn.
When Andre goes, Nick will be the drama queen, but I hope he’s in the top 3.
I think Kara will be gone in the next 2 weeks. I like how Nick told her to trust her instincts after telling her earlier “I’m not teaching today.”
Chloe had a great idea, but it didn’t come out quite right.
Daniel V. rocks. He’s so laid back. I hope he takes it.
Not only do these people have the talent to create the garments, they have to know all the nuances of different fabric, color schemes – they’re given 30 minutes to buy everything, I wouldn’t even know what the hell is in the store!
Major geekage going on here. I need to go hunt or something. :P
It WAS touching. Bruce Jenner too! I hated that stupid “Simon wannabe” judge. ENOUGH already with your hoity toity-ness.
bee-atch
i also like PRoject Runway- I missed it last night though. :(
He was a Simon wannabe!!! Like: can you please just give these people the props for what they HAVE accomplished?
And Dorothy Hamill looked gorgeous.
I love Tae Babilonia.
did you watch American Idol, mere? Last night was just an AWESOME night of television for me.
Jon – I thought the way Tim Gunn handled Santino in that moment was great as well. And Santino seemed to take the advice. I liked Santino much better during this challenge.
And I don’t think he should be “off”. He’s too talented. He ups the bar. He’s a wack-job, and he’s willful – but without Santino, the show just wouldn’t work as well!!
yeah, they (Dorothy and Tae) looked beautiful. and I love Scott Hamilton.
My brother does an imitation of Scott Hamilton that is so funny that I have a hard time looking at Hamilton now and not seeing my brother. hahahaha Same with George Clooney. I look at Clooney and see my brother’s imitation.
yeah, I watched American Idol- most of it anyway. its so painful to watch..i love it.
and Randy Jackson seems to not call everyone “dog” and “bro” anymore which is nice. (that went right up my ass last year)
I can’t stand the over-use of “bro”. It drives me crazy.
The show is SO painful to watch … but so fascinating. Especially because some people truly believe that they are the best singers ever … like … how on EARTH could they think that???
Santino may be talented, but he hasn’t designed for the client but once. ONCE! It’s not about him and his designs, it’s about designing for the task at hand.
I think without him they’ll play more footage of Andre being so dramatic that even Daniel V. will start being annoyed. There’s plenty of character on that show without Santino. And they can show more of Heidi Klum.:)
I laugh at the fools on AI who are so damn horrible, but CRY when they don’t make it. YOU ARE HORRIBLE. If I had to sit there all day listening to some of those people, I’d be worse than Simon – quit wasting our time!
I loved that the cowboy kid made it. He’ll be gone quickly, but I thought it was way cool that Randy said yes just to get the guy on a plane. Go, dog!
I watched AI for the very first time last night. Why have I not watched it before??? I was already hooked. And yes, the most touching moment was the cowboy kid who made it.
im too happy to comment…yes to everyone!
I agree Mitchell – I love the weekly runway breakdown!
