… the Preface of a biography of George Washington makes you cry.
All this just in time for Presidents Day.
As those of you have stuck around my little corner of the Net for more than a year, you know that I go insane on Presidents Day. Not AS insane as I go on Bloomsday, but pretty insane.
Get ready for a Presidential onslaught on that day. I’m already compiling quotes!! (Sigh. And still workin’ on Bill Pullman. I am very busy right now in my real life, but I am still working on the Bill Pullman post. George Washington and Bill Pullman. Welcome to my world.)
How awesome is this book! I loved it. Absolutely adored it.
I haven’t even really started the book proper!! But the last paragraph of the Preface made me break down in tears last night.
Awesome! I love Ellis – I have enjoyed his books SO MUCH.
Read Ellis’ book on the Founding Fathers ages ago – am glad you recommend this book.
Confession : I fell in love with George Washington during the Bicentennial. I wanted him as a boyfriend. I wanted to meet him.
*sigh* I get to indulge in another fandom! Thank you! LOL
HAHAHA.
“Explain your friend Sheila to me.”
“She cries at the end of a preface of a biography about George Washington and when I “accidentally” get too stoned in the bathroom of a bar, she talks me down on the drive home by reading me segments of the United States Constitution.”
“Cool.”
hahahahahahahahahaha
WHAT?? And yet … completely true.
“Here’s the first amendment, David …”
I got goosebumps while reading just the back cover excerpt from John Adams so you’re not alone, Red. :P
The Amazon excerpt goes a long way toward closing the deal.
Confession : I fell in love with George Washington during the Bicentennial. I wanted him as a boyfriend. I wanted to meet him.
Man, did you come to right blog…you can double date with Sheila and Alexander.
So, what’s not to understand? You have a passion for the first president of the US and, what I assume based on Independence Day, the last president of the US.
How is that abnormal?
Mar – Just as soon as I get through with my wild affair with Jack Aubrey….LOL!
Hey Sheila
You will love this book, I read it so fast last year. For me, the most admirable enigma of all time.
Hey Liam – can’t wait!!!
