My cousin Kerry O’Malley has a part in the new Showtime series Brotherhood – which I’ve heard from certain quarters (cough Lisa cough) is really good! Lots of hot pale Irish-y guys too.
If you’ve got Showtime, you should check it out! Also – the whole thing takes place in Rhode Island. Which just adds to the glory of it all.
Go, Kerry!!

Did you get my e-mail with the RI slang translation site? Hilarious.
But seriously, this show is the shit. There’s a lot of talk over at TWoP about how the accents are quite right, there aren’t really Irish on “The Hill, blah blah blah gripeycakes, but it doesn’t matter to me. I lurve it. Jason Isaacs is so yummy I want to spread him on a biscuit.
(Kerry is featured in next week’s episode, in which her poor schlub of a husband effs something up and Tommy has to smack him down.)
Um, that should be “the accent’s AREN’T quite right.” Preview is my friend.
I did get your translation guide – it was so funny!!!
It’s hard to get the Rhode Island accent right – it’s like a Boston accent. You know it when you hear it – but someone trying to imitate it who doesn’t quite get it?? Horrible.
I hope it ends up getting syndicated on one of the channels I DO get – cause I’d love to see it.
I guess we can listen to Kerry — of all people, SURELY she can get it right!
Fionnula Flanagan started out really good, though in the last couple of episodes her Irish accent has slipped in a LOT. But they had her mention last week that she came from Dublin as a young teenager, so maybe that how they’re explaining it.
It works for me, though. She’s awesome.
Fionnula Flanagan is just amazing. Man.
Hot, pale Irish-y guys AND Fionnula Flanagan? I am watching this show.
damn. i don’t have showtime either. booo-hiss. Anyway, Go Cousin Kerry!!
You O’Malleys are like, ubiquitous.
Unfortunately, I don’t have Showtime. However, since everything comes out on DVD nowadays…
Dearest: we too are premium channel-less, so must await the illegal copy from Tony. Go Kerry! I hope she doesn’t use a RI accent. love, dad
hahahaha That’s right! Uncle Tony will hook us up.
They replayed the first episode on CBS a couple of weeks ago (CBS owns Showtime) but it must not have done well, because they haven’t shown another.
Plus without all the curse words, it wouldn’t be as realistic. And of course, the ear-cutting-off.
Hey Sheila, thanks for the heads-up. CBS aired ONE episode to try to get people to watch on Showtime — they won’t air anymore because Showtime is a pay channel, and they aren’t going to give away the show for free — it was aired to entice people to watch Showtime. And yes, I have to use a RI accent, and yes, Fionnula gets more Irish as the show goes along, and yes, it was a blast, and keeping all fingers crossed for a second season. First season will be out on DVD in September.
I’m SWOONING over here! Kerry has a face to go with her name now! V v exciting.
Kerry – congrats, hon. You deserve all the success in the world. Can’t wait to see it on DVD!
