Photo Booth Series 3

We are about 19, 20 years old here. Me, Mitchell, and Mitchell’s sister . This is the summer when Mitchell and I REALLY became friends. As in kindred spirits, as in forever friends. We are having one of the funnest days EVER – we went to Rocky Point – anyone who grew up in Rhode Island will nod in recognition. Rocky Point, rest in peace. The most dilapidated trashy circus-freak amusement park ever. We spent a whole day there, going on “the flume”, getting soaked. I had a terrible haircut which I had fixed the next day. As you can see, we are obviously shouting out emotional directions in between shots. I love the absolute PANIC in Sandi’s eyes in that last photo. She has no idea WHAT she should be “performing” … I don’t think any of us did. I seem to recall one of us shouted out incomprehensible emotional directions like: “PROUD … AND YET ALSO IN A RAGE … BUT WITH A SMIDGEON OF DEFEAT …” (hahahahaha this is the kind of shit we find fun) … but none of us could actually DO that (let alone understand it) and so we all just started screaming.

Mitchell looks absolutely INSANE in that last photo. It’s killing me. Psychotic eyeballs. Psychotic eyeballs!!

Also, I love how the beaded earring is just dribbling off your head in all three photos and there seems to be no attempt to brush it aside. You just embrace the dribbliness.

If I look at Mitchell’s face in the second picture, I start to feel my face melt off.

Rocky Point – The summer I was 23 and couldn’t find a job, so Jeff and I worked at Rocky Point. Jeff was the director of City Camp, but I was so horrified that I had to work there so he joined on with me. We both started off in games (“give me a buck and lose at my game”) but Jeff moved up to be a “Rocky Point Player” and performed on the big stage. The next summer I was pregnant with Chelsea so my Rocky Point summer was my last summer of my “youth” – crazy memories are popping up right now!

Bets – I remember that one day that Mitchell and I AGAIN came to Rocky Point (god, we went there a lot) and you were at your games counter, and it was so hysterical to see you. I remember you had a microphone on a cord and you were shouting into it.

Those are moments of such pride – ha ha. I remember all of my supervisors were about 18 years old. All of the games people were about 16 while the rider operators were brought over from England. It was advertised as a great summer in America when really they spent countless boring hours running rides and sleeping in a dorm behind the park. Naturally, Jeff and I befriended the craziest folks and we had a lot of fun after hours.
