Maybe there was originally more to the flag. “Surfing Only Works When There Are Waves” or “Surfing Only For People Who Hate Elvis, Reasonable People May Do As They Please.”
Swimming in Lake Michigan right now is so good for both body and soul, especially at night when the air temperature drops below the water temp (75’sh). It is a rare occurrence, but brings back so many good memories. You also don’t have to worry about sharks – I know it is silly, but jaws took ocean swimming almost off the table for me – lousy directors with their good stories and excellent cinema-photography.
Haha! I seem to recall a day at the beach in Montauk when I was determined to defy the flags designating the legal swimming area and I said, ” I don’t like rules,” and you said, “I don’t like breaking rules…” Surfing only!? I don’t think so.
Miss you! We have to do one more beach jaunt before the season is over!!

Ironically – this is right around the time the tornado touched down in Queens.

You’re not hardcore unless you live hardcore!
Bless you for that reference.

Allison – HAHAHAHA That’s right!!! Hysterical. You’re rubbing off on me!
Yes – I miss you too – let’s get together soon.
You’re most welcome. That film is one of my happy-place movies.
Me too. So many good moments!
“We were on a field trip … that went AWRY.”
Saturday, the same storm produced windy whitecapped waves at the northern end of Lake George only a bit smaller than the surf in your photo.
The stated rules of the state campground are no swimming without a lifeguard at the one beach, and no swimming anytime anywhere else.
With a few friends from elementary school days, we’ve broken that rule every first weekend after Labor Day for about 15 years.
Most memorably skinny-dipping at night under a full moon, with thousands of moon reflections shimmering across the water.
Bouncing with rare lake waves yesterday was also pretty cool.
OT, congrats on your well-deserved professional success.
First of many.
Devtob – what a great story! Yes, sometimes you just have to say “eff it” and go swimming!
Thanks for the congrats. Life is a whirlwind of new-ness. It’s all kinda cool!
