To all New York City area people:
My sister Siobhan has a gig tomorrow night. Should be a lot of fun! Stop by if you feel like it! Here are the deets:
Where: The Downtime
251 W. 30th Street (between 7th and 8th avenues)
When: Thursday April 15th, 8 p.m.
Come out and celebrate the end of Tax Season.
Lyric sample for all my wacko Boston Red Sox readers:
Siobhan wrote a rocking tune last year called “161”, which she wrote after Opening Day, 2002:
161
Opening Day in baseball’s done,
161 games left to go on.
And I wish the Red Sox had won,
but one game lost don’t mean that we’re done.
One game done and hope abounds
and i’m already hearing World Series sounds.
161 games to break some curse,
161 games to not think the worst.
Pop fly, so high
Keep going on and on
Pop fly, so high
Keep going on and on
161
161
Can’t be cursed, can’t be blessed,
Don’t believe in hexes I guess.
Is that a ghost floating over Fenway Park?
A Babe Ruth in the Boston dark?
The myth that feeds fatalism
and gives a bad rap to optimism.
There are no ghosts if we don’t make them,
There are no ghosts if we cannot shake them off.
Pop fly, so high
Keep going on and on
Pop fly, so high
Keep going on and on
161, 161
Don’t call it a curse,
I said don’t call it a curse.
The curse excuses losses away,
the curse relies on hyjinx and bologna.
We need a win, a path to agree on–
like the Citgo sign a beacon in orange neon.
Exorcise supposed ghosts.
161 games to just let them go.
Pop fly, so high
Keep going on and on
Pop fly, so high,
let it be a home run
161
Take away the power of the stars!
I’m gonna marry Nomar!
Nomar, Nomar
No more (curses), No more (curses)
161, 161
Well, I certainly can’t go, but I did just e-mail your sister to order one of her CDs. If she’s half as good at music as you are at writing, then it’s definitely worth the meager ten bucks.
Aw…I’m blushing.
I particularly enjoy “Fool Girl Parade”, “Pseudo-Southern” and “Belly Under” on her CD. I listen to her lyrics and think: How the hell did she come up with that? Is that my little sister?
Speaking of music – I have not listened to your tape yet, because I don’t have a walkman and I have been getting home late and I am kind of a loser.
To-night’s the night …
It’s pretty manic. Be warned. I have very weird taste in music…it’s probably to only place on Earth where you will find a Buzzcocks song followed by Neil Diamond.
I love that. My sister Jean gave me a mix for Christmas with “Day by Day” from Godspell next to Mary J. Blige next to Joni Mitchell. It’s great.
“Belly Under” rocks, but I’m most partial to “It’s Not Yesterday”.
It’s Not Yesterday and Belly Under are my favorites as well, but I would really like to hear a performance of 161…
Is ‘161’ on the CD? Cos if so, I’m a buying.
Hell, I’ll prolly buy regardless. If I lived in NYC I’d catch the show.
Dan –
HA! No, it’s not on the CD – It came out before she wrote 161.
It’s a lot of fun – especially because she’s playing it to audiences of New Yorkers. Everyone gets so into it. It’s great fun.
Perhaps it will be on the next CD?
:) Perhaps.
Well a man can dream.
