To one of my favorite people in the world.
And some of my OTHER favorite people in the world are on the panel.
And I’m gonna be there, and I’m having a heart attack.

I am not by nature a jealous man, but knowing you even just a little tests that fundamental character trait. In a way, I am glad you don’t like jazz that much because you would probably be writing about how you met Sonny Rollins while recently in Chicago, and he wants you, and only you, to spend two weeks following him around for a photo/essay combo in an upcoming Vanity Fair issue. At that point, I might not ever recover.
DBW – ha! I can promise you that if I ever get such an assignment, I will put in a request for an “assistant named DBW”.
No but seriously – I am SO PSYCHED. A tribute to one of my favorite writers. Moderated by Philip Gourevitch, another one of my favorite writers, and a man that I refer to as “my husband”. And Salman freakin’ Rushdie??? And a Polish actress reading excerpts from Kapuscinski’s work? I’m gonna die.
I will also bring my camera, and will desperately try to talk to some of these people afterwards.
I’m dying to read how the evening went. I figured it would be your first post of the day.
Patience. I’ll practice patience.
