Review: Enzo Avitabile Music Life (2013)

Enzo

A new music documentary by Jonathan Demme, not quite as good as his others, but still very interesting, Enzo Avitabile Music Life.

My review is now up at Roger Ebert.

I definitely want the soundtrack.

hi sheil! i just have to say, i love the way you talk about films you obviously aren’t crazy about. there is something very generous in your approach, something that acknowledges the basic accomplishment of completing a film at ALL which gives your ideas weight. clearly you don’t love this film but you still give me enough to think about whether i want to see it or not. anyhoo, great job!

Thank you, Bren!! I can totally feel Jonathan Demme’s love for this guy – and the music itself is amazing. Kudos!

I very rarely write anything off. You know? I can usually find SOMEthing to appreciate!

and even with his couple of Oscar-nominated gigantic hits under his belt – I think ultimately Jonathan Demme will be known as a music documentary filmmaker. It’s a passion, I love that.
