Congratulations are in order to Mark Cleland, Ireland’s newest rock-paper-scissors champion.
Every sentence in that story is a delight.
‘I didn’t go into the heats with any particular strategy, but as the final approached I practised with friends and focused on improving my concentration and stamina.’
Brilliant.
Thank you to Carrie for sending it along!
And it should be of special interest to my dear cousin Kerry who stars in the upcoming film The Flying Scissors, a mockumentary about “the intense, grueling world of competitive “Rock Paper Scissors”.
I love people.
No kidding. Carrie sent me this as well. It’s genius. Dude practiced Rock-paper-scissors to win a CHAMPIONSHIP.
I still say it’s more of a sport than poker. But I’m with you. I love people. LOVE them.
Also:
“the heats”. ?? I mean, come on. It kills me.
I so want to go to a rock-paper-scissors championship now.
‘For my final throw I chose scissors. I was thinking he’s going to throw paper. All the practice must have paid off and I’m thrilled and honoured to be representing Ireland at the international finals.’
There’s nothing to stop us from holding one, Sheila. It’s what any self-respecting shallow elitist would do.
It makes me so happy that there are people out there who care so passionately about rock-paper-scissors.
(It just generally makes me happy that there are people out there who have these passions that a lot of people might view as odd or trivial…it’s those kind of things that make the world interesting.)
ricki – I know, I totally love that too.
