We were all asked to write our “favorite Roger”, piece of writing, blog-post, commentary track, whatever. I chose Roger Ebert’s review of Kwik Stop, directed by my old friend and fellow Badlands enthusiast, Michael Gilio. Roger didn’t just review this tiny independent film, he championed it. He championed Michael’s work as a director, a writer, and an actor. Words cannot even express what support like that means to a young guy just starting out. The impact he had on Michael was incalculable.

Roger’s original 2002 review of Kwik Stop.

Kwik Stop is wonderful. I wrote about it here. If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend you check it out. It’s on Netflix.
