Ruined your childhood? Oh dear. I can understand. It is an emotionally compelling movie, something lost in all the conversation about how scary it is or what a gross-out it is. It may be those things too but what makes it great is the emotional weight the characters carry throughout, exemplified by Karras in Miller’s great, great performance.
Jonathan – it’s one of those movies I saw when I was WAY too young. I was 10 years old or something like that – and It terrified the living shit out of me. It was YEARS before I would allow myself to see it again, so horrifying was that first impression.
