A Good Reason

Johnny Carson to Fernando Lamas: So, why did you go into movies?

Lamas: Because it was a great way to meet broads.

Pause.

Carson: Nietzsche couldn’t have put it more succinctly.

This one makes me think of Jorge Guinle, who “exhausted a multi-million dollar fortune in funding his passion for beautiful women,” including Marilyn Monroe.

“I have no regrets,” he said, looking back. “I had a much better life than I could have imagined. I met the A to Z of Hollywood and had a great time. I might not have any money left, but when I sleep, I dream of Marilyn.”

but when I sleep, I dream of Marilyn.

    Lucky lucky bastard.

When I sleep, I dream of Marilyn, too. She’s one of my geek-credentials.

Emily – if you read this, the whole “Marilyn’s jacket” sub-plot of Wonder Boys KILLED me!

I’m with Fernando Lamas. I intend to recommend to my son that he get involved in theater in some capacity while he’s still single, largely because of the girls.

I couldn’t act my way out of a paper bag*, so I assumed I’d have no role. It turns out that halfway-handsome nerds can be theater techs for local theaters. You get to use tools and break things. And there are pretty girls. I know from experience that they sometimes date theater techs.

I got involved in local theater too late for it to involve both fun *and* romance, but I will make sure my son knows this…

*Actually, I could play Agent Smith in the Matrix, but only because I already sound like that.
