Outside Taos

After basically infiltrating Dean Stockwell’s life with my good friend Stevie, we headed back to Albuquerque, through an extraordinary landscape.

Here’s just one glimpse.

I always love the trip from my folks’ house in Albuquerque to their place in Colorado, especially when we go via Santa Fe. It’s just breathtaking the whole way and nice to see the slow transition from desert terrain to piney mountains. One of these days, I’ve got to make that trip when I’m not with people who are in a hurry to GET THERE and just go slow and stop for pictures whenever I want.

Emily – yes, the mountains – how you can almost see where exactly they begin … the vistas – I was just blown away by it all!

That picture makes me think of Flagstaff. I’ve only driven through the area once, but I think it might be a cool area to live someday. If winter gets to be too long you can always take a break and drive down to the desert for a while.

Great picture. I’m so glad I get to see sights like that everyday. Yeah, I’m gloating just a bit! I wouldn’t live anywhere else. (just a couple hours North of Taos)

Definitely jealous! I can’t imagine EVER getting “used” to seeing something like that!

Of course I grew up 10 minutes away from the ocean, and I know people who feel that way about the ocean … and honestly, even though I see the ocean all the time – I’m never “over” it, know what I mean? I always look at it, and have a moment of deep appreciation that I get to see it all the time.

But still: those mountains, and wastelands – just gorgeous!!!

I know just what you mean about never being “over it”. I was gone from this place for over 20 years, and always knew I’d be back. Everyday is made better just by taking my time driving to work, or home, and enjoying the view.

I really need to start posting the pics I take… ;)

I love to hear that – someone truly appreciating, on an everyday basis, where they are. It’s rare, don’t you think?

    You’re lucky!!

On a side note, I got into a kind of altercation – friendly, but an altercation nonetheless – with a snotty Irishman in a pub in Dublin. He was teasing, but there was bite behind it. He said, “Do you know that 95% of Americans don’t have passports?” (He pulled out some statistic like that)

I fired back, “Yeah, but we don’t need one. We span a continent – we have so much to explore in our own nation – oceans, mountains, deserts, cities – we’ve got it all.”

Now I love me foreign travel – I treasure my passport, and LOVE to experience other cultures and countries – but seriously: we live in an amazing country with so much variety – there is so much to see here!

I don’t mean to sound provincial but come on. If you live in Albania, you had BETTER have a passport because your country is tiny. But America? I still haven’t been to all the states! I could spend my whole life exploring the United States and still not see it all!

You are so right! I too love me some foreign travel, but still have yet to see all of the good ole USofA. I’ve seen most of it, but there are still many many wonders and sights yet to behold.

I get a kick out of those folks (like your Ireland gent) who just don’t get it. Many of our 50 states are as large as their countries! I took a German friend on a road trip from Michigan to Colorado and he was STUNNED by the distance and diversity in the landscape. Pretty cool
