“Santa Doesn’t Have a Brother. There Is No Santa.”

3-08_A_Very_Supernatural_Christmas

To all the Supernatural fans who show up here regularly, thank you so much for stopping by. I have had too much work lately to do re-caps, but I have done the initial work for “Playthings,” and will get that up sometime next week.

Our collective conversations about the show have been a huge part of making 2014 entertaining and fun, and I appreciate every one of you.

Sheila – I don’t comment much (I struggle with the same stupid language issues as Lyrie, it’s HARD to write in English when people around you talk in Dutch :-) ), but I’m so SO happy that I found your blog somewhere in march/april. Your writing is amazing, and your blog is like some sort of treasure chest of great articles (my favorite is I think the one about Charmin). Anyway, thank you for doing the SPN recaps and for all your other writing (which I love just as much)!

Oh and that picture is sort of hilarious, sad and beautiful at the same time (great episode also!) haha.

Merry Christmas from Holland to everyone!

Rije – I am happy you found me as well. Your English is fine, but I sympathize with the struggle!

And oh my God, that Charmin place. Insane. That is hysterical you found that piece.

I re-watched the Christmas SPN episode a couple of nights ago. It really is a miracle of storytelling – I still can’t believe it works as beautifully as it does. So emotional, good GOD.

Merry Christmas to you and to Holland from the East Coast of America!

Merry Christmas, Sheila, and to all our Supernatural fans! Supernatural brought me to your blog but your writing has kept me reading through everything you’ve written. A new entry perks me up any day.

    • sheila says:

Bainer – sooo nice, to hear, thank you so much!

Here’s to the second half of Season 10, and to more re-caps in 2015. I look forward to it!

  3. Helena says:

Haha – almost a year to the day when your first Supernatural post went up!

Merry Christmas, Sheila, thanks for all the great writing and accompanying fun.

Wishing you a wonderful Christmas and awesome New Year.

  4. Jill says:

I’m normally a lurker on this blog but I did want to come out to say Happy Holidays to all! I’m so happy to have found a place to seriously discuss my most favorite show. I have family and friends who watch but they don’t WATCH. I like to discuss layers, and symbolism, and all the things that Jensen Ackles can do with his face. I tend to sound a bit obsessed to others. Thanks for taking the time to do these re-caps, as well as thanks to everyone’s wonderful insights. Merry Christmas!

  5. Michelle says:

Sheila, finding this blog was one of my favorite things of 2014!! Thanks for all the wonderful re-caps and for providing a place to be able to talk with other great people about Supernatural. Merry Christmas!

  6. Lyrie says:

I’m so sorry, did I mess everything up by posting in the last episode thread this morning? I’ll discreetly repost my very beautiful and tasteful Christmas card here, then.

Again, thank you so much for your great work, Sheila. Supernatural was definitely one of the best thing that happened to me this year – and the other great things were sort of thanks to this show, stumbling upon this blog included. I don’t dare commenting on other topics than SPN, but I read the rest of your blog avidly.

I think I’ll re-watch the Christmas SPN episode tomorrow morning. I like crying my eyes out on Christmas Day. Again, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, to all!

(Rije: Glad you joined me. Let’s write approximate English together!)

  7. Barb says:

Thanks for posting that lovely card, Lyrie–and Merry Christmas, everyone!

  8. Grean says:

Merry Christmas to all the delightful fellow spn fans I have found here. An extra special wish for good cheer to Sheila for hosting us and writing the most thoughtful analysis of our show.
My granddaughter and I both watched the Christmas ep a few days ago, so funny and tear inducing all in such a short time.

  9. Jessie says:

I had to cut out a lot of my regular reading this year but Sheila your blog is so rich and varied I rarely felt the loss! & Thanks for being such a great host.

A Very Supernatural Christmas is an eternal favourite, always in our rotation of Christmas episodes and movies and this year, after S10 and a S6&7 rewatch, when JA first appeared onscreen I literally gasped out loud, his youthful beauty is so unholy. Crazy.

    Happy holidays y’all — it’s been a blast!

  10. mutecypher says:

    Merry Christmas, Sheila.

    Merry Christmas everyone.

  11. hunenka says:

Oh, Sheila. Thank you, for… well, simply for you being you, actually. I don’t comment often, but I love every single of your recaps, and I’m slowly going over your non-SPN posts too, because it seems like everything that you write is fascinating :-)

I hope you’ll get to enjoy some much-deserved time off during the holidays, and that you had a wonderful Christmas. Oh, and happy New Year!

  12. Kathy says:

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, add my thanks to everyone’s for your wonderful commentary on the SPN episodes! As many others have done, once I discovered your SPN reviews I started to move into the other things you’ve written… it’s all so good I eat it up and spend too many hours not working as I go through your posts. Thanks!

  13. bookworm says:

A very Merry Christmas to you, Shelia, and also to all of you who come and discuss everything! I lurk and read all the time; you all are so much fun. I came for the Supernatural posts and have stayed to read everything I can find. It’s all lovely and fascinating.

I was slipping away from Supernatural fandom because LJ is dying and the Ts don’t lend themselves to lengthy discussions of episode production and meta analysis. Finding Shelia’s detailed, thoughtful dissection of episodes followed by lively and interesting discussion was like manna from heaven.

Thank you for a year of fun; here’s to a happy new year and many more!

  14. Erin says:

This time of year has always been difficult for my husband. Not because it’s stressful for him (which it is), not be cause he has to spend vast amounts of time with my extremely exuberant family (which he does) but because it is my annual binge watch of Supernatural.

In previous years his plaintive whisper of “Haven’t you seen this one?” was met with “yes, but this is a good one”. This year is different however. The question is the same but this time I reply “yes, but if you watch this scene you will see …”

You see this year, I can explain to him why a scene is good, why Dean reacted like he did, why the lighting is the way it is. Everything I have tried to explain but just didn’t have the words, words that you have now put in place for me.

So while you are (or at least should be) taking a well deserved break, I hope you take a little heart in the knowledge that your posts are being read, episodes watched and posts are re-read as a companion piece. And although I can’t genuinely say that have introduced my husband to the joy that is Supernatural, he now watches it with me with a little less “my wife is crazy” and more “that focus puller earns his money doesn’t he”. At Christmas time we take the miracles we can get :o)

I hope you have a great break, and 2015 brings you what you need. Your blog certainly did that for me in 2014

  15. sheila says:

Everyone – thank you so much. These messages have made my day. Right back at you all!!

Lyrie – your Christmas card! So funny! Love it.

  16. Rachel says:

I cannot tell you how much I love this site! Sheila, it is a delight to read your exquisitely insightful analyses of the episodes. They have made me realize how carelessly I tend to watch films, at least as regards their visual aspects, and it makes me want to get better at being attentive! (I am still geeking out about the blue roses/Glass Menagerie connection you found in “Hunted.” So wonderful! It added so much thematic depth to that episode for me.)

Equally delightful are all of the wonderful commenters who share their thoughts here. I’ve only been a lurker thus far, because you all have such insightful things to say, and I feel a little intimidated :) But maybe one of these days I’ll get the nerve to put in my two cents!

Anyway, Happy 2015, everyone! You all are awesome.
