“She knows this scene is a large opportunity, but she doesn’t milk it; she stays true to the character, the real, strange person who is always alive somewhere even in Kahn’s most outrageous inventions.”

Dan’s comments about Judy Berlin were wonderfully written. It hit me in the core. I loved Madeline Kahn, and I was really hurt when I saw Judy Berlin–much of that performance was painful for me. Dan really captured some of the same things I thought about that movie. I was guilty of seeing her as a comic mastermind, and never completely saw the potential for broader, deeper things. My deep mistake.

DBW – Dan’s observations there really struck me too.
