Tour of bookshelves: The bookshelf on the east wall

This is my biggest bookshelf. I thought: Okay, let’s just load it up with all of my nonfiction and fiction. The heavy-hitters. Let’s not try to cram them into the smaller shelf on the south wall, where they would have to be separated out, due to lack of space.

We ready?

Here we go.

Here is the damn shelf in its entirety.

That slimmer middle shelf is for my DVDs, so we’ll save that for another day. I decided to put the nonfiction on the left hand side, fiction on right hand side.

So let’s begin.

Top shelf, left-hand side:

History (world)

Second shelf:

More world history. Robert Kaplan and Ryzsard Kapusinski side by side. That strikes me as beautifully right.

Third shelf:

More world history

Fourth shelf:

Fifth shelf:

Sixth shelf:

Last shelf:

I started with adult fiction here.

Now to the top of the next shelf. Adult fiction continuing on, shelf after shelf after shelf.

    Seething with envy over here.

  2. Carrie says:

How much fun would it be to sit in your apartment talking books! A mixture of recognition, trading views and discovery. Thrilling!

  3. red says:

Carrie – do you see your husband’s book??

  4. Emily says:

Hahaha! I was just going to come here to write “I love that you have Carrie’s husband’s book.”

  5. red says:

Emily – argh, still haven’t read it yet!!

    But I will, eventually!

  6. Carrie says:

Yes I did!! I still can’t wait for your review (or should I say I am still looking forward to it!!) It is very cool however to see his book on your shelves. And Republican Voices, too (which is definitely a collector’s item now).

  7. red says:

Carrie – I still remember that bookstore in Belfast where we bought Republican Voices. (Right after we went to Starbucks!)

I’ve only read 5 full books in the last 8 months. :(

    I’ll get back to it.

  8. Carrie says:

When you do, you do. I’ll just want to read what you think then!! :-)

I bet your apartment feels great now with your bookshelves. Imagine growing up and living in your own library. When I sit in our ‘study’ – the booklined walls are so calming (for lack of a better description). It’s like walking into a hug or snug or something very comforting, being surrounded by all those special books.

  9. Catherine says:

    I spy the Mitfords!

  10. joey7lindley says:

    Wow! That’s impressive!

May I ask what is the book on which appears “Norman Rockwell” on the fifth shelf, please?
