AFME Updates: July and Half of August, and etc.

I love the shot the Albuquerque Film and Music Experience chose to “represent” our film, July and Half of August, on the page with the list of films. It kind of says it all, especially the fact that there are no people in the shot. The DP was Peter Mosiman, and you can tell – even in that small image – how talented he is. I sat behind a big black drop-cloth for most of the shoot, watching on a monitor, and I was amazed at how that prosaic sports bar was turned into something else, the way he shot it. That look was on the screen, not created afterwards with filters or color-correction.

Our time at the Fest is solidifying now, and it’s about a month away. I’ll be there for the majority of it, and have some parties and events I want to go to, plus a couple of films, plus re-connecting with my friend Stevie, and a couple of friends are flying in as well. It’s been almost 10 years since I’ve been in Albuquerque so I am really looking forward to it. Everyone involved with AFME have been so nice and welcoming, as well as clear and uncomplicated in their correspondence with me. Here’s what you do, here’s where you go, see you then. Much appreciated, especially because I know film festivals can be totally chaotic.

It’s a proud and happy moment for us, and I’m so glad that some of us will be there to represent. And hopefully more film festivals to come.

I just love how that shot looks!! In reality it was this randy happy-go-lucky sports bar. The set people stripped all of that out. I had said to the director, “I want it to be the kind of place where people are drinking at 2 in the afternoon. The kind of place where it would be totally weird to go have a catch-up drink with your old flame, especially if you’re married.” (which is the situation of my short.)

They did such a great job giving the bar that look!!
