Ivan Wiener, Executive Director of the Albuquerque Film and Music Experience (where the short film I wrote, July and Half of August, will be screening on April 23rd at 3:30) reached out to me and asked me to participate in their Intimate Conversations series, a public interview with an artist participating in the film festival.
I am very flattered to have been asked. Maybe I can pontificate on my love of Bugsy Malone and Little Darlings. Or Supernatural. Make sure these people get their money’s worth.
I have no idea if any of you all out there are in Albuquerque, but here are the deets:

I’ll be there. I’ll be the one asking, “How influential was Bugsy Malone to the formation of your raison d’etre?” xxx Stevie
hahahahaha I can’t wait. I really need a plant in that audience.
Wow, so exciting! Congrats, what a huge pat on the back! Well deserved. I hope there is some kind of live stream or video. Have you ever been intimately conversated before? I feel like if someone sat me down in front of an audience and said ‘tell us your opinions’ they would unleash a monster the likes of which the world had never seen. The Thing From Hell!

Jessie – hahaha That’s exactly my fear. “so what do you think about such-and-such?” I’m gonna have to stand up for that question!!
They did say, “Let us know what topic you might want to focus on.”
“Uhm … the Soulless Sam arc in Season 6 of Supernatural? Too esoteric?”
What up, Albuquerque! Ha ha you know I think that show, what’s it called, Supernatural, came here once on a hunt. Isn’t that funny! But seriously I want to talk to you about Sam’s hair.
hahahahahaha
Audience’s eyes glazing over. Moderator’s face horrified.
Maybe I can bring a series of clips to show of Sam’s hair from season to season.
“If you’ll notice, in Season 9 he is now sporting a Marlo Thomas flip-up at the bottom …”
ha ha ha out comes the posterboard and the laser pointer —
— and I think you’ll see that the length of his sideburns is a direct foreshadowing of how much of a role Dean’s abandonment issues will play in the season finales —
hahahahahahaha dying …
“why did we invite this woman to speak again?”
Stocks in Albuquerque Film Festival plummet…. Storms in Chicago…. Darkness spreads over the land….
Close the Devil’s Gate, FAST – Sheila’s moving on to Season 10!
moderator stands in the middle of a blasted desert, shaking her fist at the sky as the chasms open up under her feet….
“Sheilaaaaaaaaaa!”
I hope you get to work in something about Jensen Ackles and the nuances of well-done shtick. (I still cannot really watch Supernatural on the regular because I am an easily scared infant in an adult’s body, but what I have been able to nerve myself through I’ve loved, and he is so fun to watch.)
We’re not getting in until Friday night thanks to Mark’s work schedule; we’re going to miss basically everything that isn’t on Saturday, sadly, because we fly out again early-ish Sunday morning. Sheila, am I right that we just show up to the Guild Cinema Saturday at 3:30 p.m. and then they show all the films listed for that time slot one after the other, including yours? I don’t want to screw this up.
Ilyka – It is my goal to somehow mention Jensen Ackles. They said they did want to talk to me about my thoughts on good acting – and what I think it is – so buckle up, kids, nobody can stop THAT train.
You all are so awesome for coming in – we probably will go out for dinner/a drink after the screening – please come with. My mom’ll be there, my friend Allison, my friend Stevie – plus the director and lead actress. Would love to have you!
and yes – it seems that they’re showing all those shorts in succession – starting at 3:30. So just show up then! You might want to buy tickets ahead of time with that big red button.
And thank you again – I’m really touched you’re coming! Looking forward to meeting you!
and I have no idea if the people involved in the other shorts in the program will be there – but the first one on the bill is directed by Timothy Busfield, an actor I absolutely love – from Thirtysomething. I hope he’s there!
I’m very excited for you, enjoy the whole experience!
I loved thirtysomething too- remember the one where Busfield directs a TV commercial for the City of Philadelphia? My favorite episode of that series. I like Busfield too, it’s weird to me when an obviously talented actor like that completely vanishes from TV like he’s in Witness Protection.
Thank you, Todd!
I remember him being great in West Wing in a recurring character,. It was so good to see him. And maybe he’s doing theatre, or directing stuff (like this short film). – I’m really looking forward to seeing it!
Excellent. We have passes so we’re all set, and we are absolutely at your command for any dinner/drinks plans.
I wish I lived closer to Albuquerque but as it I don’t think I can even spell it.
And I hope you get to talk about ‘Jane Austen’s Teapot: Cursed Crockery in Supernatural.’
hahahaha They’re gonna have to drag me off the stage.
Or I could go controversial, and do an entire lecture on why Amelia is an excellent addition to the plot, despite her rudeness and those limes.
Treat it like a debate. With no one to debate with and an audience who has no idea what I’m talking about.
I’m gonna be like poor Chuck when he is forced to improvise at the convention.
“No. You can’t get Croatoa down there … See your doctor.”
Just paint a bit ol’ Devil’s Trap on the floor and say, ‘Well folks, are you in for a treat tonight.’
Start with a chanted exorcism. Call it a night.
