Book Release: The Art of American Screen Acting, 1912-1960

My friend Dan Callahan has a new book coming out, The Art of American Screen Acting, 1912-1960, to be released on March 8, 2018. His first book was Barbara Stanwyck: The Miracle Woman, and his last book was Vanessa: The Life of Vanessa Redgrave. (I did a QA with Dan about his Vanessa Redgrave book for Ebert.)

Above is the fabulous cover of his new book. It looks like an old movie poster, or something from a 1940s movie magazine. I can’t wait to read it.

Nobody writes about acting and actors like Dan Callahan.

Very excited to read this book. Bought his one on Barbara Stanwyck as soon as it was released. In my opinion she should be remembered in the echelon of Bette Davis, Joan Crawford, Gena Rowlands ect….. sadly she is not. But very excited for the release of this book!

Yes, it’s amazing but Dan’s book is really the only book on Stanwyck. I think this is partially because her work was everything to her, and she didn’t really live some insanely wild personal life. It was alllll work. But I agree with you – she’s one of the best actresses we’ve ever had.
