There’s so much to be said about the two of them together, but mostly it’s how perfect they both are as performers. Look at how throughout the medley, Martin is turned slightly towards her. He’s not “in this” for himself, even though he shares the stage with her. He is ceding ground to her, keeping his attention on her. And she? She takes what he gives her – and what he gives her is often very funny – and reacts to him in an open and accessible way, which is her own kind of ceding ground, a sort of, “Wowee, listen to you!” or “You sound amazing!” Two performers: towering giants in their field – but here, they are all about each other. That’s collaboration, that’s art.
Additionally: God, I miss variety shows! Where amazing people come on and just … do whatever … to entertain us, to amuse us, to help us forget the hum-drum.
No bells and whistles. Only a couple of slight camera moves. No cuts. A cheeseball “set”.
Nothing to distract us from the two amazing humans, connecting with each other, connecting with music, connecting with us.

Such fantastically relaxed talent. They’re great together.
Clips like this make me miss good old-fashioned variety shows so much.
