I got this developed and I couldn’t even believe it was real. That I had actually captured this crazy sunset in Key West with that BOAT directly in the sunset light. I was down in Key West visiting a guy I had been seeing. I arrived only to find he was living in a crack house and doing all kinds of shady shit for money. I stayed in the crack house for one night, lying on the couch in the main room, as people came and went – I was called a “cunt” by a white cockatoo who strutted into the room – and as charming as the parrot was, I was like, “Not one more night in this scary place.” So I booked a room at the Holiday Inn, stayed there, and basically enjoyed Key West on my own. I occasionally intersected with the guy – but in general, I wanted nothing to do with the spiral he was on. I spent a lot of time at the Green Parrot – a great bar – drinking Bloody Marys and reading a book called The Collapse of Communism. I had nothing to do all day. I sought out Ernest Hemingway locations, Tennessee Williams locations, I hung out down on the pier. Everyone would gather down there to watch the sunset. The sunset was always a show-stopper.

Wow! Fantastic picture. Those sunsets only last two seconds and you caught it right at the perfect time.
On another note, I just redid my bookshelves and came across my copy of The Collapse of Communism that I bought eons ago. I have to admit that it looks a little dry but I’m going to tackle it in this continuing year of the plague.

No way!! The one I have is a compilation of every single article written by NY Times reporters as all of the events took place – from the the Berlin Wall, to Tienaman Square – so it’s like an in-real-time playing out of the events – which of course we both lived through so I remember it well. But it’s wild to read it again.
