Review: Jakob’s Wife (2021)

I dug the vampire movie Jakob’s Wife, starring horror icons Barbara Crampton and Larry Fessenden. My review is up at Ebert.

  1. Desirae says:

I think that the sexual connotations of vampires might come from a vampire being at a basic level a person who has desires they aren’t supposed to have. So all the bloodletting works well as a stand in for other things. This is also why there are so many vampire films with queer subtext (or just plain old text).

Whereas werewolves are about the gross, uncontrollable body, which is why Canadian classic Ginger Snaps connecting lycanthropy to menstruation was such a clever idea.
