Review: Resurrection (2022)

Resurrection is a psychological thriller – I guess? – but it goes into much nuttier territory than the usual. I dug it. It’s bonkers. Great acting, too. I reviewed for Ebert.

This one really just kept going and going. Tim Roth and Rebecca Hall were great. The opening conversation between Margaret and Gwen the intern was a clear bit of foreshadowing – but without indicating just how far things would go. This was creepy and unsettling in a great way.

This was the third movie I watched last weekend: Silence (Saturday night), Elvis (Sunday afternoon), and Resurrection (Sunday night). I had not seen Silence before and was overwhelmed by it, then there was the joy of Elvis, and then the “is it really going there?” of this. It’s a crazy/good movie to hold up against the two I saw immediately before it.

Silence is totally overwhelming!! I went to that by myself, in the theatre, and was just bowled over by it. That final shot!!

Makes an interesting triple bill with Elvis and Resurrection!

Can you imagine being that poor intern listening to the horrifying monologue from your boss? I so sympathized with that girl. “Is this a … joke?”
