::sniff:: Where’s my Kleenex?
“Your death reminds me of the loss of America’s innocence, the distance we have come from your sly, boyish leers to our flagrant, overstated embarrassments for parents and children.”
How very, very true. I remember listening to Johnny’s jokes, how my dad would laugh and laugh and my mom would snicker with embarrassment (that’s how I knew they were somehow “dirty”) but even at the age of 12 or 13, I didn’t GET them.
Nowadays, I can’t depend on Hayden and Alex not “getting” the jokes. They can’t help BUT get them. And that’s during the so-called “family” hour of 7-8 p.m.
Isn’t that just a beautifully written heartfelt piece??
Just beautiful. And I love the accompanying photo of Johnny’s curtain, spotlight on, with nobody standing there.
fantastic! he said it perfectly
