Last night was another big O’Malley gathering in New York, this time for my Uncle Tom’s birthday. My parents drove down, other uncles and aunts drove down, cousins drove in … We all convened at Kennedy’s, a fun (huge) Irish pub up by Columbus Circle. It was beautiful. I think Tom was surprised – at least I hope he was. We ate, drank, made merry, caught up with one another … Some of Tom’s childhood and teenage freinds were there – people I remembered from when I was 7 years old. And now here we all are – adults. So weird, and so fun.
My cousin Rachel drove down from Southie – arriving at around 10, just as everyone was leaving. A lot of people drove down for the party, and then drove back in the same night. But the cousins (Liam, his wife Lydia, me) remained, my sister came up after her bartending gig – Rachel was there, and we had a beautiful time, just hanging out, laughing, talking, catching up.
In other news: My cousin Emma , who was there, took her SATs today, starting at 8 am sharp. I woke up late (I had gotten home at 3 am – good Lord!) and it was 10 am when I emerged from sleep, and my first thought was of Emma, slogging it out with her number 2 pencil. Good luck, girl!!
Family is everything to me. Just everything.
And dammit, my cousin Rachel makes me laugh. I mean, the O’Malleys in general are a funny group, but Rachel in particular … So good to see her. She lived here for a bit, and I miss seeing her more often.
You are a lucky girl to have such a close knit, loving family. Not that you will ever do this but don’t ever take that for granted. Some people in this world don’t have that and that is their one wish in life.
……oh by the way, your gorgeous, talented, funny, smart, fantastic Helen Hunt Hunt Hating brother Brendan says hi. He’ll be over AGAIN tonight to watch more movies with Mitchell and I. I think we’ll watch…..oh let’s see….ALL THAT JAZZ????!!!
Jealous much?
Serenity – thanks. Yes … I am blessed, I really am. I try not to take it for granted.
Alex, I am so jealous that I have just eaten off my own hand.
Has he done a rant about Laura Linney yet? I think you need to get him going on that one – it’s pretty awesome.
And I love that he hates Helen Hunt of all people. And it’s not random hatred – he can back it up with many examples and visual aids. It’s hysterical.
I’m so glad you all got to hang out. Beautiful. :)
Alex- Please have him talk backwards for you. Fluently. I am in complete awe of the boy. And give him the message”Yeh, Nadnerb! Evol, Hteb Nannerd”
He needs to do a guest entry on Hating Helen Hunt. I kinda liked her on Mad About You, but when she dumped the totally awesome Hank Azaria, she dropped a few notches in my estimation.
Lisa..have u ever heard of a “Lavender Marriage?
Mitchell,
At the risk of sounding either really naive or really stupid, no, I haven’t. ::blushes:: Enlighten me.
