I finished Miracle At Philadelphia: The Story of the Constitutional Convention May – September 1787. For anyone who is interested in the United States Constitution – and how it came to be – the arguments that helped give birth to it – this book is essential reading. One of the most beautiful things about this book is that you see that those who were AGAINST “consolidation”, those who opposed the new Constitution, were almost more essential to the convention than those who were FOR. It was the opposing arguments that helped clarify what needed to be included in the Constitution and what needed to be left out. With unanimous approval, we would have been in pretty big trouble.
I’m now reading two new books:
Letters to a Young Contrarian (Art of Mentoring), by Christopher Hitchens, and Break, Blow, Burn: Camille Paglia Reads Forty-three of the World’s Best Poems
, Camille Paglia’s new book on poetry.
Great fun, both of them. Great fun.

Red, BTW, I think the Camile Paglia book is listed on your “Buy me something” list at Amazon – –
I’ve pushed The Ordeal of the Constitution in this space more than once, but I hope once more won’t hurt. I’ll also take the opportunity to recommend Professor Randy Barnett’s Restoring the Lost Constitution.
Also, the Land of the Lost DVD…which I now have (heh, heh, heh).

Oops! Thanks – I took it off. I couldn’t wait for someone to send it to me as a gift – I had to go ahead and buy it.
