Snapshots

— Wow am I obsessed with Criminal Minds.

— I am devouring the Ripley books as well as David Peace’s extraordinary Red Riding quartet. A lot of violence. I ache for violence.

— I spent a couple of days researching Hercules Mulligan and Nellie Cashman for one of my freelance gigs and feel completely enriched by the experience.

— My friend Allison has moved back to New York after a year away and I am thrilled. We’re going to be workout buddies. I have got to get my weight/health in order and although I’ve begun I am pumped to step it up a notch.

— After a glorious straight week of rain, it is now hot and muggy and I am not happy about it.

— I yearn for the ocean. It’s physical.

— Life is so short. I’ve wasted too much time. Get busy living or get busy dying.

— Going out with David tonight. It’s been way too long. Miss that man.

— More boys I love. I like my hobby.

There’s ocean in southern Brooklyn and Queens, accessible by subway.

Different from Watch Hill and Block Island on land, obviously, but the same ocean beyond the beach.

And thanks for this, which should inspire us all every day — “Life is so short. I’ve wasted too much time. Get busy living or get busy dying.”

devtob – I go to the beach here all the time, just haven’t had time in the last couple of weeks so I’m feeling the ache. On a good week, I go to the beach 3 or 4 times. Usually the Jersey Shore though which is really lovely.

I think I’ve seen every episode of Criminal Minds twice and still I wind up flipping over to ION every night.

Dave E – I’m so glad to hear that! Yes, it does make me feel, as a woman, that I should never leave the house, because everyone out there wants to rape and disembowel me … but I love the concept of the show, LOVE the acting, and find it strangely gripping in a sometimes salacious way.

My wife is devouring Criminal Minds right now, both the original and the Suspect Behavior spinoff with Forrest Whitaker and Janeane Garafolo. Very strong work in those, and especially the original.

  6. sheila says:

Yeah, as much as I like Whitaker and Garafolo – I just can’t get into the spinoff. For me, it’s that original cast – either with Patinkin as the head or Mantegna – that is the hook. Such good acting!!

Criminal Minds is incredible. Wonderfully done show. Love the job the casting dept seems to do, the little scenes with victim/bad guy of the week are always amazing.

Probably my favorite show on TV. Even repeats I’ve seen a half dozen times are always watchable. Love Rossi, too. Mantenga is fantastic.

  8. sheila says:

Yeah, and the people they get for the guest spots – the parents of victims/potential bad guys – these are incredible actors.

I love Garcia most. The majority of her work is done by herself, staring at a computer screen – and yet doesn’t it seem like she is WITH them at all times? Most of her stuff is done in solitary – but her work adds to the sense of urgency. She’s got the toughest job on that show, because so little of it is done with actual human beings.

In my happy place: Paget Brewster and A.J. Cook are returning to the show. The petition Joe Mantagna and Thomas Gibson started paid off. : D
