Election Day: Nov. 4, 1845

Nov. 4 1845 was the first uniform election day in this country. Congressional legislation had been passed the year before – which made the elections of electors in each state simultaneous.

I love the photo below. It’s not from 1845, obviously, but it is a big moment in terms of the election history in this country …
