Allison just informed me that she heard from the manager of the bar – who tallied up the scores on the Oscar ballots – and I won the Oscar pool! (I had had a feeling I might win something – but I won the whole damn thing.) (Actually, to be honest, Allison informed me in this manner: “You bitch. You won the Oscar pool.” hahaha) I have never won anything in my life. I don’t even know what the prize is yet, but I am so excited!
Funnily enough – I also just got an email from my sister Siobhan – and she won the pool at the bar where she worked!
And so the O’Malleys are rockin’ the Oscar pools in the 5 boroughs.
and then there is this footnote to the whole thing: Sheila and I were perched on bar stools at the end of the bar maniacally screaming out everytime a winner was announced…if we got it right it there were enthusiastic WOOHOOS and high-fives all around. if we got it wrong, there was the inevitable swearing and cursing of the academy. in retrospect, we probably seemed like big fat freaking iditos, a supposition that was confirmed this morning by the manager of the bar. a group of people who had been at the bar on oscar night had returned last night while he was tallying the scores. when he told them someone named Sheila won, they asked: “Was it one of those two girls at the end of the bar.” When he said yes, they responded: “Oh good, they deserved to win. They were just SO dedicated.”
hahahahaha I love that!!
Well done Sheila! I lost my “cup” this year by two votes! My friends and I bought a large goblet that is the “Oscar Cup” and I had to hand it over yesterday. It was a sad moment…
