A solitary walk

… in the woods near my parents house. There’s a pond, and a shed with a fireplace … and sometimes the pond freezes (I remember Mere and I skating there on a snow day) … and it’s all marshy and quiet and you can see deer and all that crap. It was getting on towards twilight so the sky was dappled … I kept trying to capture the exact quality of the sky with my new camera and I didn’t QUITE succeed but I will keep experimenting.

Photos below.

Here’s that dappled sky I mentioned:

Da shed in da wood.

I guess this person had run out of Post-It notes:

The only way out is thru.

I love this.

Mirror.

Wintry bark.

From inside da shed. Big stone fireplace. Teenage grafitti on the walls. The ghosts of a million lost virginities.

Thru the swamp.

i like these. reminds me of a place not too far from my home.

[[in other news, have you heard? kurt vonnegut died.]]

For someone who only recently got a “real” camera, you frame up your shots very well indeed, particularly the bench and the tree bark. Even the sign; a lot of people would try to line that up straight and center in in the pic, but it is much more striking as you have it above. Please keep posting your photographs, I am really enjoying them.

    Sheila,
You’ve really got quite an eye with that camera of yours. I’m loving it.

I can’t look at that picture of the rock with the “Dude, can I play basketball” message on it without wondering what Timmy Treadwell would have made of it. Good thing it doesn’t have a smiley face or he might have thought it was the Russians declaring war or something.

    amelie,
That’s the first I’d heard of the news of Vonnegut. Farewell…

Emily – hahahaha Timothy Treadwell. That’s right … what did he say about the smiley face on the rock? Something like: “That is CREEPY, man.”

  5. red says:

And yes, I had heard about Vonnegut. :(

    What a career.
