An amazing photo indeed – however also rather unsettling to me…it must be the perspective.

I know – it’s like the blitz in miniature.

But the scope. It’s glorious. The technology!

It is; the monochrome appearance makes it even more breathtaking.
    And 1943. Wow.

    Gawd, I’m a geek.

The four-engined planes are B-24 Liberators.

The two-engined ones – hard to tell, but I’m going to say B-26 Marauders (the fuselage looks curvey enough, and while the resolution is pretty poor the tails look like single rather than double, which’d be a B-25 Mitchell).

The two-engine planes with the dual fuselages, way up by the roof? P-38 Lightnings.

And the single-engine planes at the outside by the roof? Hard to tell at this resolution, but I’d say P-40 Tomahawks, or maybe P-39 Airacobras.

I now return you to the usual, less-martial geekiness.

If you read the comments over on that site, there’s a dude who talks about the makes and models as well.

    Yep.

    I corrected him!

    I’m pretty hopeless.
