“We need a montage!”
Random NYC shots.
I took this one out a cab window as we ricocheted down 7th Avenue. I was surprised how clear it came out.
A winged Wilbur.
Garment district window.
Fountain. I liked how this shot came out.
I kept seeing a pack of ghosts running through Times Square. Everywhere I looked, I’d see them. They weren’t doing anything, really – just standing around, or walking. This is my favorite shot of one of them.
Another one of the fountain. Divide of sun and shadow, thought it looked cool.
Blood-orange margarita
Midtown Comics.
The Paramount Sign. I swear, my heart speeds up when I see that sign.
Cool T-shirt.
Like James Lileks, and also Bill McCabe – I love the ghosts of old signs painted on sides of buildings. You gotta capture these things while they still last. Their days are numbered.
And then – a couple of the many shots I’ve taken of the Tiles for America memorial. (I posted about this place before)
“Even Rocky had a montage…”
ha!!
I have never had any desire to visit New York- ever.
But this makes me want to go there.
Sal,
Do yourself a favor: Go.
You won’t regret it.
These are awesome (as usual), Sheila…
I loved the ghosts I kept seeing running around. It was so bizarre!
Having a camera makes this city seem NEW to me.
Like those random flying pigs outside a barbecue joint in Times Square. I walk by there all the time – I don’t think I’ve ever seen them before!!
BTW, that the first one was taken while in a moving taxi is pretty incredible. Beautiful lighting.
Alex – I couldn’t believe how clear the photos came out outside the cab window. Some of them were blurry – but lots came out like that. Cool!
Oh that one tile that spoke of ‘blue eyes and no fear’ just went right through me!
Gorgeous pictures, all!
I think my fave of this batch is the ballerina – evocative in a hard-to-describe-but-nevertheless-touching sort of way.
I love the old ghost signs too – we have so many in dying small towns in this part of the country. Need to make more of an effort to document them now that I have some decent equipment…
Of course my first thought was to post what Emily posted.
Of course! I would not expect anything less!!
Sharon – that quote about the firemen kills me, too.
In anything if you want to go
From just a beginner to a pro
You need a montage…
I love the old painted billboards. On the train ride home through Newark, I also like to look the faded company names painted on the sides of abandoned industrial buildings.
There’s one faded board at Harper’s Ferry, for “Mennen’s borated talcum toilet powder”. I don’t know how we survive without products like that these days.
Bill – hahahaha toilet powder!! That explodes on contact!
