“I was a director for hire. I needed the job.”

Joe Valdez has another movie review up – and this time it’s about one of my favorites: Robert Altman’s The Player. I did not know that Sidney Lumet was originally attached as a director, and that Robert Altman did the job “for hire”. Amazing. I need to see it again.

Here’s my post on Dean Stockwell’s one scene in The Player.

after recently watching ‘nashville’ for the first time, i’ve decided to make a concerted effort to see every altman film again, or for the first time if i haven’t seen it.

i remember reacting to this much the way the hollywood execs seemed to…it felt like an inside joke. but i didn’t really know altman at that point so i think the extra level of perception he would bring to that was lost on me at the time.

    want to see it again!

Joe – any time! I read everything you write – I might not always comment or link, but your reviews are some of the best (and most informative) out there. Keep it up!!
