Oh, Say Can You See?

Actually, you can’t at this moment, because it hasn’t happened yet – but it will tonight!

My wonderful cousin Kerry will be singing the National Anthem this evening at Fenway Park before the Red Sox-Angels game. She’s an old-hand at this by now … Here she is singing the anthem before a Celtics game …

But still: it’s kind of thrilling. Kerry is one of the most fanatic Red Sox fans I know, so what a thrill to sing in such a setting!!

And Jean and Pat will be there!

OH FOR A TELEPORTING MACHINE.

Go, Kerry and Go Sox!!

Well, that’s great and all, but she needs to get back to Brotherhood. I need my Caffey fix!!! :)

  2. red says:

Lisa – ha!! She starts that again in August. Never fear!

  3. Emily says:

Dammit. It would have to be for a game that isn’t being shown locally….It’s only broadcasting on ESPN out here. BOO!

  4. bill says:

…and to look at her you’d never SUSPECT you two were cousins…much! Great for her…how thrilling

  5. Dan says:

How awesome for her! Maybe I’ll hear her on the radio? Sadly I don’t have cable -a ll my baseball comes over the airwaves.

  6. JFH says:

Her undergrad degree in from Duke and grad degree is from Harvard?! (IMDBed her)… Wow, she must be super smart… Uh, not that you’re not or anything (Looking down at shoes, wondering if one could fit in my mouth)

  7. red says:

    There are no dumb O’Malleys.

  8. red says:

    Emily: BOO indeed!

  9. red says:

Dan: I actually prefer listening to the games on the radio but in moments like this … I need to see!!

And then of course 2 years ago Kerry’s brother Mike threw out the first ptich at a game. So we basically own Fenway is what I’m trying to say.

  10. JFH says:

    There are no dumb O’Malleys.

…and based on what I’ve read over the years: All O’Malleys seem to have been blessed with significant artistic talent.

BTW, ESPN cut to commercial just before the National Anthem :(

  11. Nicola says:

Is it a bit evil that I am laughing ’cause your cousin has just completed a movie with Renee Zellweger? (IMDBed her too…)

  12. jen says:

OK. I could rave and rave and rave about how wonderful she was and the people who told her so after she sang, but you should let her tell you about it.

My version: She was amazing! She was beautiful, had perfect pitch, looked deliriously happy, the crowds cheered, and I was so proud and excited for her I had to brush a few tears away!

Pictures were taken, videos were shot. We had a blast. And I got a wicked cool Fenway Park sweatshirt!

  13. red says:

Nicola – Case 39, yeah. The O’Malley clan can’t wait for it to come out.

In the meantime, get your O’Malley fix at Meet Dave – which another cousin of mine is in.

  14. red says:

Jen – Whoo hoo! I’ll get my sister to tell me about it too. I wish I could have been there!

  15. red says:

Now if only the Sox had won …

  16. Patrick W says:

She sounded awesome. We weaseled our way down to the front row for 5 minutes to hear her sing. Jean had a tear in her eye.

A win would have been nice.

  17. Kerry says:

Oh my God it was so awesome. I nearly died from bliss. And I got a kiss on the cheek from Papi and a hug from Timlin. Seriously, I thought I would DIE. And to have so many friends and family there was incredible. Oh my God I want to do it again, it was freaking heaven. And yeah, we lost, but so did the Yankees and Tampa, so it wasn’t all bad. And Papi kissed me on the cheek!!!!!!

We started shooting Season 3 of Brotherhood yesterday, so never fear, the Caffees will be back and up to their usual tricks!

And no, there are definitely no dumb O’Malleys. Haha.

And a lot of O’Malley Tabby cats, Milo and Savannah to name just two.

Wish you could have been there, Sheila, but it was so great to have Jean and Pat there to represent the Rhode Island O’Malleys! We had the color guard from RI and they mentioned Brotherhood shooting in RI for my intro, so it was like you all were there!

    Love Kerry

  18. red says:

Pat – Sorry, I should have mentioned you were going, too. For some weird reason I thought it was only Jean.

    Thanks for the eyewitness account!

  19. red says:

The fact that you hugged Timlin, the hottest man in the universe, makes me want to dissolve into a small pool of envy.

It sounds like an amazing night, hon, one for the books (in the book of your life). I’m so so happy for you – and thrilled that you had people there to see you triumph.

And you hugged Timlin. I want to cry.

  20. nightfly says:

Next time Manny’s got to hit his bomb with the sacks full, not in the ninth, bases clear, off that schmoe Rodriguez.

It’s funny because I’m a Mets fan and have nothing whatsoever to do with the LA Angels, but I just can’t stand “K-Rod” and his rigamarole. That’s why I found this game so satisfying – Wright singles home Reyes in the ninth off F-Raud and the Mets win in the tenth.

  21. red says:

Hey Jen – did you video it? Let me know!

And Kerry – did Liam end up going?

  22. jen says:

Video on Kerry’s camera (as well as of the rehearsal while she was wearing a 2007 World Series Ring). Her Dad also got some. And others have snippets. I’m worried that the camera I was holding may have a bit of a wobbly factor because I was shaking out of excitement/nervousness/over-emotional whatever while I was doing it.

It was hard to be sad that they lost because so much else about the night was phenomenal! Fortunately, since the Yankees got totally spanked by Baltimore, we didn’t feel too bad about it.

  23. Kerry says:

Yeah, I have video on my camera and my dad got it, too, and the Sox are sending me a dvd as well. Woohoo!

    Kerry
