Why I Love My Father

Because he’s fascinated by the fact that I have set up a store on Amazon and enrolled in their Affiliate Program … and he wants to know, on a monthly basis, how much I have made. He thinks it’s great.

I told him last night that one particular post of mine, back in 2003, about Alice in Wonderland – gets a ton of Google Search traffic for some reason … so I went back and put in links to Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass into that old post – and since I did that, I have sold probably one or two copies of those books a day. Isn’t that extraordinary?

So basically my blog has now become profitable.

But I told my dad last night about the Alice in Wonderland thing and how successful it was, and his response was,

“Good girl, good girl.”

Oh, my heart.

Mine, too. There’s something about hearing gentle words like that from your Daddy that no man on Earth can reproduce in the same affectionate, reassuring tone. Not one. Just Daddy.

    You go, girl.

  3. Karen says:

You’re making me weep. My dad would never, ever say something like that to me.

    Your family is a treasure.

  6. Aw, I love this.

My dad is a retired carpenter. I love how proud he gets when I tell him about my successful assembly of furniture or anything else requiring the use of tools.

He’s not a mush of a man at all and not prone to open displays of affection. But the nod, smile and “Good on you” that I get is more than enough.

Curly – that kills me. Yup. That kind of quiet stoic not-too-many-words pride … It means SO much.

  8. It really does. And I’m grateful that as I’ve grown up, I’ve come to understand him better. I didn’t know how to translate that properly when I was younger. All the more reason I appreciate him now.
