Snapshots

These were the elements. Golden light, foliage ablaze, a green river, sunlight and shadow, a stone patio, steam rising off the river at dawn, the stillness of dusk.

Not to mention the work I got done during the day and the Paul Newman marathons at night.

This is all so achingly gorgeous to me — it hurts. I love the marble-studded pitcher on the dining room table. At least it looks like marbles.

Oh, and the blue glass windchime in that same photo.

And the weathered red shed with the yellow door. Is that a playhouse or a storage shed? So cute.

The dangling colored glass in the window in that last shot — I want to do that now!

(Good grief. My laundry list here.)

These are amazing photos, Sheila. The light, the trees, the water! I could live there forever, I think. So beautiful and peaceful and restorative.

Tracey – I know!! I never ever wanted to leave. Oh, and a neighboring woman actually came over to see if I had any sugar. I was like, “I have no idea! This isn’t my house!” But I let her in and we scoured the gorgeous kitchen until we found some sugar.

The shed down by the lake has things in it like a lawnmower, some more kayaks, and many many daddy-long-legs.

I thought, when I first walked in to the place and saw the layout, that I would be working at that huge dining room table … but it gets blasted by sun … and the patio, with its coolness and quietness – ended up being perfect for me.

It’s a three-story house, too. I stayed in a palatial room upstairs with two big cushy armchairs, another TV and a glorious bathroom with an enormous hottub.

The whole thing was just perfect – I’m still coming down from it!

I also have many ideas about how to make my apartment a more welcoming work-space. I need to ask some burly friends to come over and help me move furniture around (IN MY ONE ROOM) – but seriously – I have some ideas about how to make it better.

Poor Hope. She’s gonna freak. She gets scared when I spray air-freshener or perfume … Lord knows how she will react to me lugging mattresses across the room.

Oh, dear Lord- there actually were “s’s” in the shed. I am so very proud of you. And, I need to know, for some strange reason… were you alone, or were there others there too??

  4. red says:

There were “s”s everywhere! But I kept my distance and they didn’t bother me. Amazing!!

I was by myself for three whole days. It was glorious.

  5. just1beth says:

‘Cause in MY fantasy of ME being there, I would be there all alone. AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH…….

  6. red says:

Of course that’s your fantasy! Solitude sometimes is the best thing ever.

It was great. Puttering around in this giant house – pretending it was mine … cooking, writing, doing yoga … it was really really relaxing.

    Gosh that is beautiful

Beautiful photos, Sheila. It seems to me that most people think of a getaway as a cabin on a lake, but I would much rather have a place on a river that is just like that.
